How the City of Light Survived the Great Flood of 1910
Paris Under Water: How Paris Survived The Great Flood of 1910 is the first historical work in English to depict the flood and the trials experienced by one of the world’s major urban centers trying to cope with its worst natural disaster in over 250 years.
Years in the works, the book is based on a wealth of original archival material, including municipal documents, newspaper accounts, and private journals, much of which have never been used before, as well as the published trove of photos and images from widely-circulated postcards. Historian Jeffrey H. Jackson also had access to the diary kept by the chief of police, who played an important role in the crisis.
